IBS-U Charity Ball to Support UNICEF's Climate Smart Villages in Madagascar

This summer, the International Business School Union (IBS-U) is proud to host the annual Charity Ball, with proceeds supporting UNICEF’s groundbreaking Climate Smart Villages initiative in Madagascar. The event, themed “A Summer Night Under the Stars,” will take place on May 21st at Huize Maas, offering an elegant night of music, dancing, and impact.

The Charity Ball is more than a social highlight on the student calendar—it is a chance to make a tangible difference. A portion of every ticket sold will contribute directly to UNICEF Netherlands’ efforts to fund two villages—Besakoa and Ambatasola—as part of a larger project aimed at increasing resilience in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions.

The Cause: Building Resilience in Madagascar’s South

Madagascar, home to over 14 million children, is one of the countries most affected by the consequences of climate change. In the island’s arid southern region, 42% of children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition, and the effects of prolonged drought continue to threaten health and livelihoods.

UNICEF’s Climate Smart Villages initiative is designed to change that. By 2025, the organization aims to transform 20 rural villages into sustainable, drought-resistant communities through a combination of:

  • Clean water and renewable energy infrastructure

  • Ecological toilets and improved sanitation

  • Entrepreneurship and vocational training

  • School vegetable gardens and environmental education

So far, 10 villages have been selected for the project, and construction of water and electricity systems has begun. Educational sessions, local economic development programs, and sanitation campaigns are already creating lasting change.

Join Us in Making a Difference

By attending the Charity Ball, guests will not only enjoy a memorable evening under the stars but also help build a more sustainable and hopeful future for thousands of children in Madagascar. From renewable energy and clean water to education and economic opportunity, your support helps make it possible.
